BirthWise VR lets midwifery and nursing students practise caring for a woman and her partner through labour and birth in immersive virtual reality, from arrival in the birthing suite until the baby is safely born and breastfeeding.

Learners guide the woman through the mechanisms of labour, including rotation and restitution, and see the result of each decision. Educators can observe and critique a session live, or students can practise on their own and receive immediate, objective feedback.
Peer-reviewed research on BirthWise VR
In Ghana, first-year midwifery students trained with BirthWise VR scored significantly higher in post-tests and practical assessments than the previous year’s cohort trained on conventional task trainers (Baidoo & Adu, 2025). In a two-year cohort study, students trained with VMC’s VR simulation outperformed those trained on manikins in skills, confidence, and knowledge (Mwangi & Njoroge, 2024).
